Chinese Progress Association (CPA) Seeks Youth/Community Outreach Coordinator

Full-time Youth/Community Outreach Coordinator

ORGANIZATION'S MISSION:

The Chinese Progressive Association (CPA) is a grassroots community organization, founded in 1977, which works for full equality and empowerment of the Greater Boston and New England Chinese community. Our activities seek to improve the living and working standards of Chinese Americans and to involve ordinary community members in making the decisions which affect our lives.

CPA is seeking a youth coordinator to assist in staffing the Chinese Youth Initiative (CYI) program and internship. CYI seeks to provide avenues for Chinese American youths to develop community awareness, involvement and leadership through a summer internship for high school-aged youth and year-round workshops, field trips, and community organizing projects.

DUTIES:

- Work to develop the leadership potential of youth participants

- Conduct community/youth outreach activities

- Coordinate and implement internship program for high school-aged youth, including an introductory Asian American studies curriculum, workshops, discussions, field trips, and hands-on projects

- Link youth and volunteers with community organizing campaigns

- Assist with program fundraising

- Support other CPA services and activities

- Assist with CPA's civic engagement work: voter registration, education, outreach, and record-keeping

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Committed to the empowerment of youth and community members

- Strong communication skills

- Community organizing experience helpful

- Self-starting and accountable, able to be a team player

- Bilingual in Cantonese, Toishanese, or Mandarin preferred

COMPENSATION:

Starting salary range based on FTE of $28,000 - $32,000, depending on experience and education, plus benefits. Generous holidays. CPA is an equal opportunity employer.

Regional Officer, Alumnae/i Relations at Simmons College

The Regional Officer is responsible for managing a systematic process and approach to serving the needs of our regional volunteers and club contacts. This includes overseeing print and electronic communications for the regional team and managing data associated with this process. The officer also provides advanced and independent support to the regional field officers and assists the Associate Director of Regional Programming.

Other responsibilities include managing the regional budget, creating and distributing a quarterly newsletter to volunteers, and managing travel for the regional staff.

This position has frequent contact with high level alumnae/i prospects and donors. Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years administrative support and/or event management experience. Must possess exceptional customer service skills, excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and strong writing/editing skills. A large portion of communication takes place over the phone and via email. Must also be proficient in the Microsoft suite of office tools.

Volunteers needed in Rural China for summer program

Calling Volunteers to Rural China!
Join a dedicated group of volunteers from around the world who work to make a difference in the lives of rural Chinese children! Experience first-hand the realities of the Chinese countryside and bring new perspectives, support, and inspiration to rural students! RCEF volunteer teams that will be going to eight villages from July 14 - August 8, 2007.

RCEF is a non-profit organization that supports the development of well-rounded, quality education for rural children that is integrated with social responsibility and individual character development. You can also contribute to our cause as a year-round committee volunteer or as a donor.

be fluent in conversational Mandarin (tested through a phone interview);
hold a university degree or be working towards one;
have experience in teaching or tutoring;
have a basic understanding of, and interest in, the development of rural China;
have about 4-5 hours/week to devote to online program preparation starting in April 2007. This will include readings, online discussions, and curriculum development. All preparations are done through online collaboration.

Director of Finance and Administration: China Medical Board

Overview:

The China Medical Board, an independent foundation that seeks to advance health in China and elsewhere in Asia, is recruiting a Director of Finance and Administration. Under the leadership of a new president, the Board is conducting an organization-wide strategic review aimed at taking advantage of unprecedented philanthropic opportunities in China and Asia through developing the future grant-making and program operations of the foundation. The first challenge of the Director of Finance and Administration will be to spearhead the Board’s move from New York City to Boston/Cambridge, oversee the transfer of organizational knowledge and capacity, and recruit, create, and implement new staff, systems and policies which will allow the Board to advance its innovative work. This position is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished professional with significant finance and administrative experience to assume directorship over the operations of an institution that boasts a 92-year record of accomplishments and a promising, new vision for the future.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the President, the Director of Finance and Administration will assume leadership for two phases of the Board’s development. In the immediate-term, the Director will work with the President to secure appropriate office space, oversee renovation of the facilities, and identify and install modern computer-based systems for finance, office operations, and grants management. In the longer-term, the Director will be responsible for all headquarters operations in finance, management staff, office operations, and grants management. S/he will undertake directly many of these responsibilities as well as supervise a small supporting staff expected to consist initially of a bookkeeper and a secretary to the president.

Qualifications:
This new hire will have at least ten years of progressively responsible financial and operations management experience in a highly complex, dynamic, tech-savvy and (preferably) grant-making environment with large operating budgets, diverse investment portfolio, substantial programs, exceptional intellectual demands and increasing responsibilities, and preferably an MBA in Business Accounting, a CPA (certified public accountant), or CMA (certified management accountant).

S/he must demonstrate maturity, leadership, and a commitment to the mission even if s/he has limited knowledge of health and the region. Entrepreneurship in providing first-rate financial and administrative leadership to a grant-making foundation and a strong understanding of investment fund management and risk management will be critical.

The China Medical Board:
Started in 1914 and financed entirely from the wealth of John D. Rockefeller, the China Medical Board’s original mission was to establish the Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, perhaps China’s premier medical school and university-based hospital. In 1928, the Board was incorporated as an independent body and gifted with its own endowment fund. Today, the Board invests in programs in 26 medical universities in China and neighboring countries of Southeast Asia, primarily supporting medical,, nursing and public health education and research. Asian Community Development Corp- Operations Manager

The Asian Community Development Corporation is seeking a full-time Operations Manager. The Operations Managers role is to oversee the agency's general operations; maintain database, communication and administration systems; administer human resources and related functions; and any other special projects related to overall agency operation. S/he will report to the Executive Director.

Qualifications sought include a B.A. , familiarity with computer networks, self-starter, and commitment to mission. Bilingual language skills in English and Cantonese, Mandarin, or another Asian language is preferred.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

AAJA/CS MONITOR INTERNSHIP - Summer 2007

The New England chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association is sponsoring one paid news internship at the Christian Science Monitor in the summer of 2007.

Headquartered in Boston, the Christian Science Monitor is known across the world as a prestigious source of accomplished independent journalism. The Monitor has won seven Pulitzer Prizes and numerous other awards for its distinguished reporting in print and online.

The Asian American Journalists Association is a nonprofit professional and educational organization that provides support for young Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders considering journalism careers. In addition, it strives to promote fair and accurate coverage of AAPIs and of the issues affecting their communities.

Applications for the AAJA/Monitor News Internship must include:

- A resume detailing all previous news internship and college/university media experience
- Six clips (when possible, photocopied from the original publications)
- A 500-word essay explaining the applicant's interest in the AAJA/Monitor News Internship

Boston Cares- Director of Programs

Director of Programs

Mission: Boston Cares organizes and leads team-oriented volunteer opportunities and services that have a positive impact on individuals and communities.


Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programs takes the lead in initiating and developing relationships with non-profits, schools and community groups that advance the mission of Boston Cares. S/he works closely with other staff at Boston Cares and volunteer committees to improve existing programs and shape new initiatives. The Director of Programs currently supervises 1 Program Coordinator and 4 National Service Fellows. This is a key leadership position in a small and vibrant organization that is scaling up rapidly. Key responsibilities include:

-Managing relationships with existing Boston Cares partner agencies including efforts to broaden their involvement with multiple Boston Cares programs.
-Identifying and securing new project partners that improve alignment of volunteer interests and community needs, expand Boston Cares’ geographic reach and respond to considerations such as volunteer group size and kid friendliness
-Periodically reaching out to inactive agency partners to re-engage them and responding to inquiries from potential partners.
-Overseeing the Calendar Program; Citizen Academy and its Civic Leadership Institute; and BOOYAH! - Boston’s Young Active Hands (youth & family)
-Supervising staff and National Service Fellows supporting the Calendar Program, Citizen Academy and BOOYAH! (youth & family program)
-Supporting the Corporate Volunteer Program in site selection and volunteer project management.

Additionally, the Director of Programs:

-Produces data, reports and surveys that document impact and can be used for quality improvement.
-Serves as the primary liaison with National Service Programs, including reporting
-Participates in Boston Cares strategic planning efforts
-Assists in developing grant applications and reports to granting entities.
-Represents Boston Cares at external meetings and on working groups, as appropriate.
-Recruits and supervises interns.
-Handles other duties as necessary.

About You: We are looking for a Director of Programs who is excited about who we are and is eager to be a partner in charting new waters. At the same time, while the position calls for someone who is able to see and even paint the big picture, we need someone to take hands on responsibility for ensuring that our existing programs continue to evolve and flourish. You have a Bachelors degree and perhaps a Masters, along with 5+ years of substantial community-oriented experience, ideally in Greater Boston. You’re an experienced staff manager; excellent communicator (written and verbal); and a focused multi-tasker who is comfortable in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment. You are a strategic forward thinker who is nonetheless a practical doer; solution oriented, open to new ideas and capable of generating alternatives when faced with challenges. You’re serious about your work, fun to work with and a great colleague.
